couples trip
Couples Trip is a jazzy electronic pop song that has MIREYA and Marco Samonte’s most original lyrics and melodies yet. It’s an flirty invitation to take a slow-paced vacation to escape from reality for a little while.
behind the writing
MIREYA: It’s a funny anecdote that my brother wrote this Sabrina Carpenter / Olivia Dean-esque flirtatious song while walking on his way to Mercedez Benz Arena to watch his first Live football game 😂.
He presented it to me that evening when he got home, fully written, already with some inkling of a melody. But we still had to spend most of that night finding the right ones.
My brother tapped into ABBA to find the perfect melodies for the verses, while I channeled Coldplay to get the roadtrip-feeling melody for the chorus.
After that, we still had to spend all morning next day, crafting a fire melody for the bridge.
The lyrics to this song are partly sexy, partly commentative of our travel culture today, and partly just silly! But we hope that they are catchy as heck (rhyming “attention” with “much pictures” was crazy work by my brother). It advocates for a slower kind of travel, a more in-the-moment, grateful-no-matter-what, and connection-centric travel.
A moment’s not a moment unless it’s shared.
Melodically, we think it’s our most original one yet. Drawing from all different directions for inspiration, we hopefully came up with a classic vacation-song that anyone can vibe with. On the beach, in the woods, or just cozying at home. Make it your soundtrip for your next couples trip!
behind the production
We recorded this song three months since we finished our first three singles, so this time around we tried a few new things.
Firstly, a slightly new vocal register. A more mature sounding, fuller and deeper register. Which we thought worked in giving this song a needy yet blissful kind of energy in singing.
Secondly, we knew that we could present a challenge to our producers @prodby_tandr , knowing how crazy talented they are by now — we wanted this song to be a fusion of jazz (island vibes) and electronic (roadtrip feels).
And to no surprise, they pulled it off magnificently! This song starts acoustic (a guitar and some tropical beat), but then the grunge guitar kicks in in the chorus, gorgeous synths and pads enter, and a bouncy bass comes in the post-chorus.
By the bridge of this song, it’s completely abandoned the acoustic guitars and gone full on electronic rock.
Lastly, we had a better understanding of musical textures and colors by then. So we wanted this song to have elements of warmth and brightness from the acoustic parts, while also have a cold and darkness through the electronic parts. It’s inviting, but also wouldn’t fault you if you say no. It’s calm and open at the start of the morning, then dark and heavy by nightfall. You’ll wanna come back to it again and again, just for one more bit 😉.
